English-language education

The Pookai Book Project is seeking educational booklets, grammar texts and any books teaching the English language. In addition, books marketed toward adults or offer tips to improve current language skills are requested. In many cases, workbooks can be copied once they arrive in Cambodia.

Cambodians who speak English have a notable advantage when applying for work with non-profit organizations and major companies. These jobs offer higher salaries that can notably increase a family's qualify of life.

Infusing the Angsoeng Library with English-language education books will allow the library's visitors to use many of other English-language books already available.

Cambodia is also in a race with its neighbors to master English. Singapore, for example, launched a nationwide campaign in 2000 to improve the country's English-language skills. Senior Singaporean politicians think a mastery of English will improve the nation's economy and the standard of living for its citizens.
