The Pookai Book Project hopes to collect a diverse collection of literature that will allow Cambodians to escape into fantastic worlds that stretch their imagination, inspire their dreams and allow them the escape of any great book. We hope to gather a collection of fiction novels that will include authors from Nobel Prize winners like Kenzaburo Oe to classic writers such as William Shakespeare.
The Pookai Book Project also wants to get books with authors from Asia, Southeast Asia and Cambodia. Common backgrounds and situations more easily create empathy and connection between readers and the novels.
Cambodian weather easily damages books, so we prefer hard cover novels or relatively new paperbacks. Older books already withered by years of wear and tear are accepted, but are less likely to be sent if there are other books in better physical shape.
