Financial Aid

The Angsoeng Library needs money to renovate its library, pay its staff, expand its educational service and buy new materials. In the past, Pookai Book Project financial donations have covered everything from new chairs and bookshelves to construction costs for library renovations and a new library.

Angsoeng depends on The Pookai Book Project as much for money as it does for books. The Project has covered anywhere from 30 to 40 percent of the library’s fiscal budget in the past three years. In 2003, The Project gave $1,200 to Angsoeng.

Small donations do wonders in Cambodia. Library founder Chandara Lor estimated that $50 can pay for as many as 50 Khmer-language books, though prices will vary depending on availability of type of book. Fifty dollars could also buy a table large enough to accommodate 15 readers, he said.

The Pookai Book Project wants to keep increasing its donations as the library grows – assisting with bigger projects such as construction, teachers’ salaries and other costs.

These smaller purchases will fortify the library’s infrastructure and serve its core purpose: to be a place for the rural population to read and learn.

The Pookai Book Project is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Donations are tax deductible.
