Pookai Project Sends Second Shipment of ’04

April 28, 2004

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Pookai Book Project sent another $250 and 12 books to the Angsoeng Library, its second shipment of the year.

The Project remains on track to send $1,500 and six shipments of books this year. In addition, volunteers plan to send a computer to the library in early May.

The project sent the following books: The Precise Columbia Encyclopedia; The New Roget’s Thesaurus in Dictionary Form; Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi; A First Dictionary of Cultural Literacy by E. D. Hirsch, Jr.; My Sticker Book Atlas by Darling Kindersley; Creepy, Crawler Baby Bugs by Sandra Markle; Hide and Sneak by Elizabeth Bennett; Fun with Letters (3 copies) by Anna Pomaska; Seal Pup Grows Up by Kathleen Weidner Zoehfeld; and How Things Work by Little Simon

The Pookai Project’s mission is to help the restoration of Cambodia by gathering funds and need-specific books for the nation’s libraries. These donations will promote literacy, accelerate education, speed economic development and empower Cambodians to take their place on the world stage. Its first client is the Angsoeng Library, run by leading journalist Chandara Lor.
