Pookai Project Sends Fourth Shipment of ‘04

Aug. 26, 2004

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Pookai Book Project sent another $250 and 4 books to the Angsoeng Library – its fourth shipment this year.

The Project remains on track to send $1,500 and six shipments in 2004. In addition, volunteers plan to send a computer by the year’s end.

The books shipped were as follows: The Oxford Companion to the Earth, edited by Paul L. Hancock & Brian J. Skinner; Don’t Know Much About The Universe, by Kenneth C. Davis; Thailand, Vietnam, Laos & Cambodia Road Atlas, published by the Lonely Planet; and U.S.A guidebook, published by the Lonely Planet. The latter two books were donated by Lonely Planet.

The Pookai Project’s mission is to help the restoration of Cambodia by gathering funds and need-specific books for the nation’s libraries. These donations will promote literacy, accelerate education, speed economic development and empower Cambodians to take their place on the world stage. Its first client is the Angsoeng Library, run by leading journalist Chandara Lor.
