Pookai Book Project Obtains PC, Software for Library

Jan. 9, 2004

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Pookai Book Project has obtained a desktop computer and software for The Angsoeng Library, which it will send to its client in 2004.

Project co-founder and volunteer Chris Seper participated in the annual Build Your Own PC Charity Race on Nov. 18, 2003 in Las Vegas. Contest hosts Tiger Direct said in December that the computer is expected to arrive sometime in January or February.

Project members also purchased at a reduced rate the following software programs: Disney Learning for Toddlers (ages 18 months to 3 years), Disney Learning for Preschool (ages 2 to 5), Disney Learning for Kindergarten (ages 4 to 6), Disney Learning for 1st and 2nd Grade (ages 6 to 8) and Atari’s Backyard Soccer 2004.

The Project hopes to send both the software and computer by April 2004.

The computer is a cutting-edge modern machine that will allow Angoseng library users to learn modern technology. It includes a flat-screen monitor, USB 2.0 connectors, a high-speed processor, a DVD/CD drive and built-in flash memory card readers.

In preparation to receive the computer, Angsoeng Library founder Chandara Lor has established user guidelines and a training program for visitors and staff.

The Pookai Project’s mission is to help the restoration of Cambodia by gathering funds and need-specific books for the nation’s libraries. These donations will promote literacy, accelerate education, speed economic development and empower Cambodians to take their place on the world stage. Its first client is the Angsoeng Library, run by leading journalist Chandara Lor.
