Pookai Project Sends Third Shipment of ’04
June 16, 2004
ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Pookai Book Project sent $352 and 45 books to the Angsoeng Library – its third shipment this year. The increased monetary shipment, from the usual $250 to $352, was in response to the Ansoeng Library’s request. This month’s shipment will be used to cover the cost of school renovations-an immediate need.
The Project remains on track to send $1,500 and six shipments in 2004. In addition, volunteers plan to send a computer by the year’s end.
One of the books sent this month was In the Shadow of Angkor, a collection of contemporary Cambodian writings that was donated by the University of Hawaii, which published the book.
The project also sent the following books: Does a Kangaroo Have a Mother too?; Let’s Go Visiting; Seeds Grow; Monkey See, Monkey Do; Soccer Game; Mud; Mr. Rover Takes Over; I love Colors; I Lost My Tooth; Pizza Party; The Big Red Sled; My Messy Room; Dinosaurs; When a Line Bends…A Shape Begins; No, David!; David Goes to School; How are you feeling?; Silly Little Goose; I Love Trucks; Clifford Makes a Friend; What Mommies Do Best; Tikki Tikki Tembo; Baby Whale’s Journey; Franklin Goes to the Hospital; My First Action Rhymes; Bright Eyes, Brown Skin; “I can’t” Said the Ant; Winter is Here; Love Me, Love You; Oh Where, Oh Where?; Papa, Papa; The Missing Tooth; Hanging Out With Mom; Where do Kisses Come From?; Corduroy; Anansi the Spider; Oink, Moo, How Do You Do?; The NBA Book of Opposites; Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day; Clifford’s Puppy Days; Clifford’s First Day of School; Curious George Rides a Bike; The Doorbell Rang and Ming Lo Move the Mountain.
The Pookai Project’s mission is to help the restoration of Cambodia by gathering funds and need-specific books for the nation’s libraries. These donations will promote literacy, accelerate education, speed economic development and empower Cambodians to take their place on the world stage. Its first client is the Angsoeng Library, run by leading journalist Chandara Lor.
